Hotels in Japan

In a choice of hotel, travel is very important, may decide for good or bad the performance of the holiday. I am always very careful in this choice, trying to assess all material respects and having found one that satisfies me I look to the opinions of those who have been checking for those first fully negative if the vote is very bad because Breakfast is very varied, because the staff does not speak perfect English, antipathy for the staff or for other reasons like that I'm sure you have chosen well. (I almost positive opinions do not read them).

Generally I tend to avoid places too close to the stations, because they generally are the most ugly. In Japan this is not a problem at all! Choose hotels near train stations or subway is ideal for not having to walk miles on foot and there is no danger of finding an area "bad."

To be honest considering the type of trip and number of nights (in different cities) that we would have given importance mainly to the price.

These are my reviews of the hotels we stayed in Japan, I hope will be helpful for those who must go to this beautiful country.

TOKYO - Yanagibashi Hotel (7 nights we spent here)

The location is excellent, close to the JR Yamanote train and Subway.
The room is tiny, people taller than 1 meter and 75 may not lie in bed. The semi-double is none other than the individual where you are in two. The bed is 120 cm wide, nearly 60 cm poor head. There's the cupboard, fortunately there is space for luggage in a niche with a hook and a long mirror. Recessed side of the bed is a desk. The bathroom seems to be a caravan: all-plastic, small, toilet, sink and shower, toiletries (shampoo and bubble bath), hairdryer. There is an electric kettle with tea bags, TV and free internet access in room (bring your own computer, who does not have it can use those in reception for a fee). Yukata and towels every day, refilling tea bags, disposable toothbrush.
Although space is tight, nothing is missing, the room is clean and the staff is really friendly. Almost everyone speaks English, there are a lot of input maps of the city, brochures and all the information you may need.
Optionally you can also do breakfast, but costs less in turn.
The only thing missing is the fridge in the room (in summer is very important).

OSAKA - Weekly Otemae Mansion (we spent 4 nights here)

Close enough to the metro station, in a quiet area with many restaurants and Silver Haze "(market open 24 hours out of 24). The arrangement is such residence, we were in the studio for two people. Virtually an open space with entrance, kitchen (pots, plates, glasses included), living area, bedroom area, balcony and window. The bathroom is spacious enough, too bad by discharges ascended a terrible smell, which limited a little 'always put the cap on the sink and bathtub.
beds (two) very comfortable, with hardwood floors give the feeling of home, TV, free in room with own computer (also in the lobby for a fee), even a DVD player.
In addition to the kitchen stove and the fridge is electric kettle (very useful to make instant ramen!) And the microwave oven. In addition to bath products (there is also the hairbrush disposable) is the dryer. Slippers in the room, slippers (different) for the bathroom, towels and yukata.
After checking in at reception (you always pay everything on arrival) is given a magnetic card, that is the key to the apartment only to be returned before leaving.
There is no room cleaning service (you can ask for a fee), in fact, a cabinet is also a vacuum cleaner. On the ground floor there is a laundromat in hall there are maps and brochures at will. Really a good solution, quite cheap.

KYOTO - Ohto Ryokan (we spent two nights here)
First experience in a ryokan was thrilling, even if this is a bit 'too spartan and quite worn. The location is very good, 10 to 15 minute walk to the train station, close to the metro and bus stations. The area is quiet, narrow streets full of traditional houses are quiet, is close enough to the Gion district of shops and galleries of the center (to get there by making a nice walk along the river).
The nature of this ryokan is basically that of a hostel, shared bathrooms, shared areas. In fact it was full of foreigners. We have taken a Japanese-style room with private bathroom (it costs a bit 'more) and large very bright. The input (with wooden floor) leads to the bathroom with sink, toilet, bathtub and bathroom amenities, and room with tatami flooring. In the room there is a closet with the futon and quilts, a coffee table with two pillows, and an armoire with TV. A sliding door in wood and paper door into a small room with wooden floor where there is a cabinet with mirror and glass door of the balcony. In this space you can put your luggage.
A fascinating experience, which is a little dip in the Japanese culture and traditions, with a sad note: the futon are too thin, the stones seem pillows and blankets did not seem very clean. Well, I did not sleep very well. Besides the morning I did not think I have to pick up the futon, but it seems to clean the room is merely to change the towels in the bathroom.
The lady at reception did not speak English but we understood the same, goes to sleep at night but left the door open ryokan, so you can return at any time (the keys of the rooms are in a box).
I must say it went well for two nights, had been more righteous because I do not know if I slept really badly. Too bad, the place is really nice.

Matsuyama - Matsuyama Youth Hostel (2 nights we spent here)
This hostel is incredibly beautiful! A bit 'far from the Matsuyama station, you arrive by tram No. 5 to the terminus and then have to walk a little, after a good climb, you see a kind of yellow hut among the trees: it is the hostel! Affordable, clean, equipped with every comfort. The staff is very attentive to anything just ask, do not miss anything.
Our double room had a bunk bed with tatami mats and futon, a sink eZone days with table, chairs and TV window. Upon arrival they gave us blankets, pillowcases and towels, along with the sheet with the rules of the hostel.
The bathrooms are divided between males and females, a floor dedicated to each. For women, the area included: room showers (3 showers with a basket for clothes and toiletries and a bathroom with bathtub), free toilets, laundry, wash the area with hair dryer.
ground floor guest kitchen with the possibility of using the refrigerator and stove. For an additional fee you can have breakfast and dinner (in the room there is an intercom, you will know when dinner is ready!). There is also a large room with couches, books, computer with free internet use (in the room the network is wireless).
There is a nice terrace and a library of manga! Outside there is a tree house for children.
That is, there really is everything, and it is the hostel most beautiful ever seen before.

Fukuoka - Hakata Riverside Hostel (we spent 4 nights here)
A little 'hotel a bit' hostel. We took a double room with bathroom, but you can choose the most economical solution in the dormitories with 4-5 beds.
The room is tiny with a bathroom, table, chairs, desk and TV. Toiletries, clean towels and yukata every day. There is an electric kettle and you can use the fridge in the common room (typing the name on things that are left). The internet connection in your room is free, although there was a network problem and eventually I used the computer in the lobby with internet access for a fee. It is located in a beautiful gallery with shops and restaurants, just a few bus stops from the train station and within minutes there is the subway.

TOKYO - Ryokan Sansuiso (we spent two nights here)

Railroad Station Gotanda, in an area full of restaurants and skyscrapers, this is really pretty small ryokan. The owners are very friendly and speak only Japanese. Few rooms, Japanese style. The sliding door of the room is of wood. In the room there are tatami mats and futon (Comfortable), a low table with two pillows, armoire with TV and wardrobe. A large window looked sadly on the building side, so there was plenty of light. A closet with a toilet and slippers, the door on the side was the shower and tub. The sinks are in the hall, shared with other guests. In the morning and afternoon, the lady of the ryokan we brought the teapot with hot water to make us tea (no kettle) and some honey. Toiletries, towels and yukata. No Internet or computer available. In the evening, returning at midnight, then close the door. Maybe you can ask for the key on bail, but I'm not sure (getting up very early in the morning we have not needed). For those who want to experience this very typical solution is highly recommended, although you need to be adaptable. Surely there is to take account of the obstacle of language, we had no problems but we came around for so many days in Japan so we were prepared. Who is the first experience in Tokyo suggest a classic hotel.
